On April 16th Black Action Society is presenting the 2019 Black Arts Festival. The festival will take place in the quad at 12:15pm and last until 2:00pm. Students and faculty are encouraged to attend the event to admire both Slippery Rock students' art as well as work from outside artists. The event is apart of the 2019 Kaleidoscope Art Festival, a festival the Slippery Rock community hosts every year, as well as SUMA's (Student Union for Multicultural Affairs) Unity Week. The event will also feature free music and food.
At the event I plan to interview Lauryn Greggs, who is in charge of the Black Arts Festival this year. I also plan to interview attendees as well as artists from the event. I plan to utilize Thinglink by attaching information of the artists who participated (personal pages, shops, social media), Kaleidoscope traditions and the history behind the art style showcased. This is newsworthy because of the size of Black Action Society and the Kaleidoscope's annual occurrence and attendance. Additionally, it is newsworthy because it is happening in the center of campus. This event appeals to human interest with the several types of art that will be showcased to celebrate the history of African American art.
